       Motors

Motors are the part of the drive system that does all the work. The are two parts of a motor, the spark ignition engine and the electric motor. In a hybrid, the electric traction motor changes electrical energy into kinetic energy that turns the wheels. And, unlike a conventional vehicle, the electric engine doesn't need to "ramp up" so all the torque possible can be provided at low speeds. This gives the hybrid excellent "off the line" acceleration.

Other important traits of a hybrid are good drive control and fault tolerance, high efficiency and low noise. Also, electric engines have low cost so mass production is possible and practical.

There are many types of motors, the most popular being the front running motors such as permanent magnets and switched reluctance motors. Others include A.C. induction, and there are many more being developed by various car companies.
